Billy stands at the Rock of Eternity, waiting. He can feel the power roiling about him, coiled like a spring. Everything was starting to come down to the wire now and he knows without thinking about it that he would be ready. Every moment of his life had led to this moment, of being willing to stay the course, no matter the cost.

He smiles a little,. thinking how he had come to see himself as Billy even as Captain Marvel. The separation that had been there was gone. He knows now where this body and this power came from. And he is who he was meant to be.

He had learned a lot about the Wisdom of Solomon lately. It only worked when you let it and it only worked as wisdom, not a substitute for intelligence. Billy had learned the hard way that he had a very large amount to learn about being a hero and being a man. His personal life was going good at home, but he was also learning that being a hero meant being alone a lot of the time.

He remembers fondly his adventures at Milliways, where he hadn't felt alone, and he regrets some of what had happened there. He resolves, then and there, to do what he can to put things right, if he ever goes back again. He hasn't seen the door in a week, and the week had stretched to two.

He shakes his head. Time enough to think about that later. Things were heating up here, far more than he thought they ever would. The Villains had formed their own society and rumors of dark deeds by heroes flooded the world. He sighs as he glances around the cave interior of the Rock and then walks towards where the Wizard stood near a vision pool. The Wizard's voice was dry and quiet, like ancient papyrus rustling as he spoke.

*"The day I long feared has come. The enemy is finally revealed. My greatest battle is at hand."

"You'll prevail, wizard. You always do."

"Perhaps. But not without careful preparation. And for that I need more time."

The Wizard turns to look at Billy.

"I need you to buy me that time, my son. I need you to delay him, as long as you can, even at the cost of-"

Billy closes his eyes then opens them. He knows this one. He has prepared for it al his time as Captain Marvel. To lay it all on the line for the sake of the world... His life or the world's? Not much choice there. He interrupts.

"I know Wizard, I know. You can count on me."

He turns and leaps from the Rock, translating back to normal space as he arrows off to find the Spectre, the Spirit of God's Wrath. His last words trail behind him.

"I wont let you down."*

With those words he arrows away, to face a power far greater than his.
