OOO: Dancing Date - Taking Millie For a Spin

William smiles as he escorts her to the outer door of the hotel. The huge lobby is well designed and decorated and they dont bar an eye at the man in the suit and woman in a dress coming out of a closet door.

"The Club is right across the street. I figured establishing a door here would be better so that we can come back through withiout having to cross half a city."

They exit the hotel and stands outside, a small wind cuitting dow the street. He smiles as he waves a hand across the street.

"There it is."

A sign saying 'Appelago's' lights up the streets with a tasteful neon sign, if such can be said to be tasteful.

Millie smiles and has a sip of her drink.

"I've never made it off-planet before. I'd guess the view would beat the location, though. What kinds of books are you into?"

"Not very many. Mostly just mysteries. I dont read a lot. I am more of a man of actions and thoughts."

Plus that whole intelligence of Thoth thing helps.

"A good book has a lot going for it. But hey, takes all kinds."

The food arrives, and Millie cuts into her steak with expertise.

"You're right about the food -- this is an excellent cut."

After a few moments he nods.

"What kind of books do you read? Any favorite authors?"

"A wide variety of stuff. We've got a few volumes of the old Grimm Brothers stories that Mom and Dad 'annotated', which gives a good idea of just how accurate they tended to be. Douglas Adams wrote some solid stuff when he was in his prime, and of course there's the classics like Doyle or Gaiman."

He nods, listening.

"Is that what you like to do when you arent working?"

"Not all the time. As I said, my main job only keeps me busy three nights a month. Other times, I might go camping or take a hike, hunt a bit, head up to the lake for a swim. Some nights, I just feel like hanging around town, hitting the handful of clubs there or the occasional movie."

"Sounds like a quiet life... do you like it?"

He is, for once, not derogatory of such a thing, but curious. He has never lived such a life.

"I do. My family's there, I've got everything I could want and a good job, it's a peaceful life with just enough excitement to keep it interesting."

She smiles, softly.

"Good... you should always do what is suited to you. Let no one else tell you otherwise."

He grins.

"Besides, a woman as pretty as you should always find her own path."

She grins toothily.

"And rip out the throat of anyone who says differently."

"Indeeed. You are a surprise sometimes, Millicent. A very pleasant suprise."

She snickers.

"What do you expect from a girl you pick up at Milliways?"

"I dont know, but I didnt expect you... and you are a most pleasant surprise."

He gives her a bow of his head, respect in his eyes.

"I honestly can't say you were expected either . . . and I have no complaints."

She smiles, purely.

He grins.

"Thanks. I'll be frank. I like to go out and have fun and just enjoy life. me and serious or heavy things go together about as well as two lead ballons trying to outfall each other."

She laughs, a soft peal.

"I can hold my own in a philisophical debate, but most days? It's just life. Do what you want, do what you feel needs to be done, and that's all that matters."

He grins.

"Amazing. You are definitely a woman after my own heart. It is definitely a pleasure to meet you Millicent."

"And it's a pleasure to have met you, William."

She beams.

Talking and eating pass slowly, but smiles and laughter help it along.

When almost done, he smiles and sits back.

"Care to head back to the Bar, soon, for a nightcap?"

She polishes off the last of her steak and smacks her lips.

"It's as good a plan as any. Lead the way?"

She holds out her arm, elbow crooked.

He smiles, catches her arm with his own and escorts her out. As the night air hits them he grins wider and inhales. A cold wind swiftly seems to roil down the street as they walk across.

At the Hotel he tips a doorman who opens the door and then leads her back to their doorway. he touches the closet door, out of the way and people look at them funny for a moment as they vanish inside.

A few hours later someone might go looking and find no sign of them and shrug. Supers! What can you do?

Meanwhile, they cross back to Milliways.

Upon their return, Millicent turns to him and beams.

"It's been a wonderful evening, William. Thank you."

He smiles.

"I have had a nice time myself. It would be nice... to see you again, sometime, if you are free?"

Here is a first: William Batson asking a woman out ona second date.

He orders a sparkling cider for himself.

She orders a hard hot chocolate(with a shot of irish cream) and smiles over the edge of her mug.

"It just so happens my schedule's completely clear for the next while. . . I'd love to."
